Okay, I take back what I said. After giving some thought to all the interspecies I can say there's new love play (LOL), and also some elements of control on the part of the hero (albeit not enough to warrant a BDSM label). I do not read a lot of erotic romance, in fact, just a couple of authors, so I was not sure what to expect. I even admit peeking at a couple reviews. I really built this book up before beginning. I LOVE MERMAIDS! This is one of the few mermaid stories I've read that has sexy sexy scenes. I consider this erotica because of how well Ms. Hill weaves the sex scenes into this paranormal romance. WOW. This is definitely a different take, generations after the "little mermaid".
