It's one of the few running races I will actually train around.  All the rest I can train right through as they are 5k/10k and until I mark the races that are my "pr" races I'll simply use them as training runs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1:45 on the 1/2.  Not my fastest time but a decent time nonetheless.  I had my &amp;lt;1:40 pace through 10 miles and then I came apart. It was cold- in the 20's, it was windy (bad), and this course was very hilly....  That being said- I felt pretty good. Felt good until the last two miles. I did do a spin class but I'm not sure that really counts.  I was recovering from the Hogeye 1/2 this week and resting for the Ironpig Duathlon.  The IPD was a 3 mile run, 19 mile bike, 3 mile run.  I did it in 1:37. My fastest was yesterday when I ran my usual route at 1:14.  I am going to start running a bit longer in preparation for my first big run of the year- the Hogeye Half Marathon.  The goal here will be low 1:40's.  If I can get to a nice sub 8 minute pace on my 9 miler that should be no problem.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My running program will now consist of slowly adding distance to my long runs- these will be slow (9 minute pace) base building runs.  My 9 mile route will be my fast run. Only a couple of workouts (I was out of town a bit) but it's a good opportunity to recover a bit. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Total runs 1  9 miles 90 minutes&lt;br /&gt;Additional cardio 30 minutes of intervals on the elliptical ( no, I'm not gay but thanks for asking).&lt;br /&gt;Workouts 2- Body pump 50 minutes and a chest workout&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Total cardio  2:50&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On another note, my 9 mile route is getting easier and faster.  The last couple of times I ran the route I'm about 3 minutes faster than usual and I'm running light and feeling good.  I will continue to run this route and start to add a little distance in February. Total mileage last 7 days...  22 miles running.  40 on the bike and the 500 m  swim on Sunday during the race. I'm pumped w/ my times.. Considering I haven't run much or ridden (at all) since surgery (July 3rd) I did ok..  1:18 overall with a 10 minute swim and a 20.6 average on the bike and 7:23's on the run.   Not the best time but I'm excited I felt decent under the circumstances. I should be ashamed.  Unfortunately, my training has been similar.  I am running and riding again but no swimming or lifting yet.    Actually, I have been playing a lot of golf in my efforts to rehabilitate.  I am taking today and tomorrow off, I will run (slowly) a 5k on Saturday and the Shark Sprint on Sunday. Although I'm excited about the long term benefits the short term down time sucks... OVT has come and gone.  My goal of placing in my age group was thrashed with some good times from my fellow competitors.  I did get 4th so I was sniffing distance from the podium but close doesn't count in this sport.  :-)~&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I did a 1:46 with a &lt;20 min 1000m swim, 21 mph avg on the bike and 7:52 pace on the run.. Did a good tempo workout tonight..  400's and 800's with a 76 second 400 and a 3:04 800.  If you are a fast runner please don't comment on these times.  In fact, after you catch your breath from laughing... just post a couple of workouts that will get me faster.  I feel like I'm running fast and then I look at those times- wow, I'm freakin' slow!  Oh well, the only way to get faster is to run!  After OVT I'm all over the sub 20 5K. The 120 on the bike is easy but 40 running miles a week is crazy.  I tried it and failed.  Pace yourself young grasshopper!  The last two weeks I have been at 100+ on the bike with a 65 miler and a 55 miler being my long rides of the week but my run totals are still in the 20's.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I ran a 5K on Saturday and my time was 21:20 on an extremely hilly course. Last week I did a total of 23 miles running and 60 cycling.  The breakdown was- Running- Monday 9 miles, Tuesday 6 miles of tempo, Thursday 5 miles and Saturday 3 (race).... Biking- 20 on Wednesday and 40 on Sunday.  I'm off to a slower start this week w/ 6 today (slow) and it will be tough as Talladega is this weekend.. ugh... Not the best time of my running career but certainly not the worst.  Hopefully w/ some additional tempo work I can get that elusive sub 20 time I've been looking for.  Maybe sometime after mid June for a goal??  I will keep a better detailed log of the tempo / speed work and we'll see how it goes! After 4 days of recovery I ran 6 on Thursday, 6 yesterday and 9 today.  Decent mileage but I'm not feeling that fast..  bummer! The Hogeye was tackled this year by me and my trusty running partner JZ in a horrific time of 1:48.  8-11's for pace.  Not bad but certainly plenty of room for improvement.  It was a great workout and I'm pumped for the next couple of weeks! I have run a total of three times in the last week.  A 5 miler at Lake Fayetteville- it was terrible.   The 15k took it's toll and I didn't have enough recovery time so I really suffered. &lt;br /&gt;I ran 6.5 on Saturday and that was much better.  Today I did 9 miles and I feel like it's coming back. The result:  1:32 of pure pain and a long (10+miles) course.  The aftermath:  very sore quads! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Wow!  All it takes is a race like that to let you know where you stand and in this case it's in deep poo.  I really struggled on this one but it was extreme to be sure.  The course was very hilly with some steep climbs (hence the sore quads).   However, I felt pretty good for the first 8 miles and I was lucky not to completely crater.  I will continue my recovery for today and then Tue through Thur I will do some light tempo work.  The freezing 5K is this weekend and I will do that simply to see where I stand on speed. However, patience has never been my virtue so I'll be brief.  First, I had the dang flu and lost a few days.  Bummer!  However,  I did go out on two more 9 milers which I ran at a decent pace.  Then I got the hairbrained idea to start my 9 day Isagenix body clense.  Ouch.  What this means is very little food and very little caloric intake combined with the reduced energy that comes from said calorie and food reduction.  So, what do you do?  I go out on Monday and do a 11 mile Mtn bike / 5.5 mile trail run brick workout.  It took 2 hours and I thought I was going to yak.  I'm letting myself recover and then I will go blaze a trail at the Freakin' Eurekan 15k cross country race day after tomorrow. First tempo run of the season and I'm pumped.  I did a total of 7 miles with three short (500m or so)  fartleks.  After recouping, I ran about 1500M at a little below race pace to blow it out.  My pace is definitely slow but hey, it's the beginning of the season!  I finished with about a 1 mile cool down.  Today I lifted back / bis and if it's not too dang cold I'll run a quick 7 tonight. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's on baby! It's definitely getting easier but I'm still a long way off.  I ran 9 on Sunday and that was nice.  8:40's and that route is getting easier too.   I blew up today so the workouts are coming more frequently!  Nice!  I'm still eating like a pot head after 5 bowls of Maui Wowie.  I am looking forward to sucking down some Isagenix and getting this 35 inch waist under control. I have run four times since the 1st.  2 nine milers and a 6 miler.  Same slow 8:30 - 8:50 pace but it's definately feeling easier.  I ran 9 on Saturday and literally felt great.  I came back and picked up my running partner a couple of times so I probably ended up running 9.5 or closer to 10.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I also mtn. biked about 10 miles on Sunday- the weather was awesome. I kept up (almost) with some guys that usually leave me in the dust so I was kinda pumped. Hopefully, I'm stating the year in better shape than I did last year!  That would be a change!  I'm sick today and it has gotten cold again so it will be tough to get a good workout in in the next day or so but I'm going to at some point.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Isagenix will have to wait as we decided to postpone that until next week ( I think ). I have decided not to promise any workouts till after the holidays.  I did run 5 miles last night- not bad- but I have done little worth writing about since!  Ugh.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However, after the holidays I'm going to be a monster!  I'm going to train like a prize fighter!  I'm going to martyr myself with mileage and countless reps.  I will go to the edge and search the depths of my cardio-respritory capabilities.  I will do reps after failure on all muscle groups- not just biceps!  I will get on the bike and ride until a cloud of white smoke puffs off my spandex shorts when snapped due to the sodium usage of said effort.  I will get my waist down from a freakin 35 inches! I will do so while keeping my weight up! I hit the gym for weight training 3 times but as far as tri training goes.. nada.  zero. zilch.  However,  there is hope!  I went today and did 1 hour of cardio and swam 1300 meters.  If anyone should actually read this, moreover, if they are an endurance athlete, they will laugh at that.  Back to the however,  it IS the first time I have swam since the CATS sprint tri in Conway on Sept 16th and I AM NOT inclined to incorporate swimming into my training  routine.  I swam a 300 wu, 10- 50 meter sprints at 40 seconds each w/ 40 seconds of rest, then a 500 meter cd.  I felt pretty good and my goal is to swim twice this week.  I will be curious to see if my stroke improves w/ training... Isn't that the idea?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I will run this week- no matter the weather!  I will try to bust at least 5 in the a.m. and at least two more this week with a long one this weekend.  Maybe, just maybe, if the weather is nice, I will throw the leg over the bike and get some miles in this week. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;By the way- I'm fat!  I gotta get my fat butt in shape.  Current weight-185.2.. Current waist...  35 inches.. whoa.  35 freakin inches.  Ok,  I have no idea what I can get my waist down to- but I know it can get down from there.  I did Ironman at 165 lbs and I don't know if I even want to get that low but I do want to get leaner.  I don't know what my body fat is but I will tell you that it's higher than it's been in well.... ever.  I'm going to freakin lick this deal! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I will post a full year training and race schedule in the next couple of weeks but for right now it's one week at a time. Today was 45:30 .. not a slow time but not fast either.  I am shooting for a goal of sub 40!  I have been to 40 before but never below so that will be one of many goals in the future.. While I'm at it....  This year I will run a sub 20 5K (Hopefully off the bike).  I have a couple of other ideas but I'll post those as I gain clarity as to what the schedule will be this summer. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I also played two games of raquetball- not really part of the get lean and fast training plan but good cardio nonetheless.  Next week is more running with a longer run on the weekend.  Maybe do a hot lap around the lake on Thursday?  I'll continue to do at least one up-tempo run a week (hopefully) to work on my turnover and hopefully get ready for some speed in the Spring. I suck!  I've never been a speed freak but man, I am slow!  I ran the lake (Lake Fayetteville) and it's about 5.5 miles X-country and I stumbled along.   I didn't time it (I will in the future to track improvement) but knowing my limits - I would say it was 50 minutes or so... .... I just threw up a little in my mouth.. yuk.  Oh well, you have to start somewhere!
